New Pop-Up Gallery Opens Doors to Local Artists by Stephan Puff, WMHS Teacher
The Wiscasset Middle High School, WMHS, is proud to join with the Wiscasset Art Walk by showcasing local works in a pop-up art gallery at 64 Main St, on June 28th, 5-8pm. The gallery will include arts and crafts from students, staff, and local artists who have donated an exceptional body of work to benefit WMHS extracurricular activities: Art Club, D&D League, and Wiscasset Special Olympics. These school groups strive to provide students with unique experiences to learn, grow, and challenge themselves beyond the classroom environment.
The first Wiscasset Art Walk of the 2018 season, on Thursday, June 28, 5-8pm, is known by regulars as the season’s Love Fest event. Balmy weather is firmly ensconced, the bulk of garden work is done, and, for many, this is the community’s first social event that celebrates the abundant riches of a summer in Midcoast Maine!
A series of extraordinarily beautiful sterling silver animals, each hand made and fully articulated, will be on exhibition at Trifles, 55 Main St., during the Wiscasset Art Walk on Thursday, September 28, 5-8pm. The Articulated Animals collection on display, created by sculptor and goldsmith Oleg Konstantinov, includes a gecko, praying mantis, frog, snake, shrimp, cicada, and cricket.
WISCASSET, MAINE – Ingram Art & Antiques co-owner Kirsten Ingram thought the Wiscasset Art Walk needed some sizzle, so she’s invited a local jazz trio to provide the evening’s brassy sounds. There’s plenty of outdoor art to view in the new courtyard gallery just off Main St., and take a look at the temporary sculpture, HESPER, on the Recreational pier. Boston’s Luminarium Dance Co. will make its annual WAW appearance with improvisational dance throughout the Village. And, to make the meandering experience complete, the O’Oysters cart from Portland will be shucking on Middle St. along with tacos-to-go from El Rodeo Go – between Treats and Golden Wok – during the Wiscasset Art Walk on Thursday, August 31, 5-8pm.
A constellation of very special events headlines the Wiscasset Art Walk on Thursday, July 27, 5-8pm, in Wiscasset Village. A marimba band, a high-end craft show in an historic barn, and artists painting outdoors throughout the Village will make for a very dense and very rewarding evening.
The Maine Marimba Ensemble will entertain WAW visitors as Middle St. is partially closed to vehicles and becomes a performance stage instead.
