Wiscasset Art Walk Features Master Printmaker R. Keith Rendall and Illustrator Tom Block, 8-29-13

Wiscasset Art Walk has generated much excitement in town as well as a renewed sense of community.  With the town’s studios, galleries, shops, and historic sites staying open late, wagon rides, music in the streets, and artisan demos, Wiscasset Art Walk is a fun and family-friendly way to experience and celebrate the arts in the Midcoast.

This new, invigorated atmosphere in the village has attracted one of this month’s featured artists, master printmaker R. Keith Rendall, to town.  Rendall has opened his new studio and gallery in the former Blooms storefront on Main St.  Rendell is a professional printmaker and artist with over 30 years of experience including 25 years teaching at the college and high school level.  He is co-founder and president of Midcoast Printmakers Inc., a non-profit organization, and is an expert on the history of etching and woodcut printmaking in the Renaissance.  You can see his work at www.rkeithrendall.com and during Wiscasset Art Walk on Thursday, August 29, 5-8pm.

Also featured during this month’s Wiscasset Art Walk is the work of local artist Tom Block.  Block taught at Wiscasset High School for many years and is well-known in the community, but probably best-known for illustrating Togus the Cat, a children’s story about the adventures of a Maine coon cat.  Block’s watercolors will be on exhibit at Mac’s Place on Main Street during the August Wiscasset Art Walk.

In addition to these featured artists, there will be extended shopping hours and open hours at nearly all the galleries, studios, and shops in town along with artisan demos, shop-shacks on the pier, and music in unexpected places.  Come and stroll through the village and enjoy the festive atmosphere during Wiscasset Art Walk, Thursday, August 29th, from 5pm – 8pm. Look for the balloons and pick up a strolling map at any Art Walk venue.

Wiscasset Art Walk is held on the last Thursdays of the summer months; it is a voluntary, community organization and embraces all the arts, music, and culture that the Midcoast Area has to offer.  Major sponsors for Wiscasset Art Walk are Carleton Realty, The First, and Wiscasset Ames True Value; sponsors are Big Barn Coffee, Fogg Art Painting Restoration & Custom Framing, and Sheepscot Harbor Village & Resort.
