Sidewalks Become the Stage on August 28, 2014

The Village of Wiscasset becomes a performance venue with plein air painting, live sidewalk music, and street performance during the Wiscasset Art Walk on Thursday, August 28 from 5-8pm. Artist Robert Noreika sets up his easel in front of Sylvan Gallery to capture the atmosphere and mood of our classic Maine village. Sidewalk artist Erik Minzner establishes his outdoor studio on Main St. to observe and paint the comings and goings of Wiscasset street life. Strolling minstrels Married with Chitlins delight visitors with their country, blues-y tunes, and Luminarium Dance Co., fresh from their 24-hour choreofest in Boston, brings street performance to the Village.

Pier Activities Planned for Families and Visitors

As the mid-coast region awakens from a very long winter and unfolds into summer, the Wiscasset Art Walk on Thursday, June 26, from 5-8pm, kicks off high summer fun. The June Art Walk, one of four scheduled during the summer, is a free, self-guided walking tour through the Village with an emphasis on enjoying community culture, art, and performance. Maine’s mid-coast region is rich in the arts, and this Thursday, the season finale of Wiscasset Art Walk will celebrate them grandly: the hand-craftsmanship our region is known for, visual arts in paint, print, and textiles, literature, local history, and music.  In addition to Wiscasset’s remarkable galleries, antique stores, unique shops, and historic sites, special features are in place to delight Art Walk visitors.

Wiscasset Art Walk has generated much excitement in town as well as a renewed sense of community. This new, invigorated atmosphere in the village has attracted one of this month’s featured artists, master printmaker R. Keith Rendall, to town.  Rendell is a professional printmaker and artist with over 30 years of experience. He is co-founder and president of Midcoast Printmakers Inc., a non-profit organization, and is an expert on the history of etching and woodcut printmaking in the Renaissance.

Also featured during this month’s Wiscasset Art Walk is the work of local artist Tom Block.  Block is well-known in the community, but probably best-known for illustrating Togus the Cat, a children’s story about the adventures of a Maine coon cat.
